MANILA, Philippines – Hong Kong-based firms are arriving next month to explore business opportunities in the Philippines, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) said.

The 16-member delegation consists of manufacturers and suppliers of electronics and electrical appliances, fashion and accessories, watches and clocks, gifts and premiums, houseware and footwear, among others.

As the country’s largest business organization, PCCI is urging local companies to meet with their counterparts from Hong Kong.

PCCI said it is teaming up with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Chinese territory’s trade promotion board, to organize the business matching event between the delegation and Filipino firms.

Among the visiting Hong Kong companies involved in the manufacturing and supply of electronics and electrical appliances are Ease House Ltd., Express Luck Industrial Ltd., Tak Tung Industries Ltd., Techmakers Digital Co., Microhm Electronics Ltd. and Nexteck Technology Ltd.

Those involved in fashion, accessories, watches and clocks manufacturing, meanwhile, include A&D Clothes Manufacturing, Benjamin Design & Production Co., Hong Kong Zhen Shen Metal Jewelry Ltd., Blue Space Ltd., Empire Watch Manufacturing Ltd. and Kindway Components Ltd.

The other companies are 4D Cityscape Ltd., Jacksons and Brothers Co. Ltd., Welldone Shoes Co. and Doho Best Helpers Employment Ltd.

The manufacturing revival in the Philippines is on full swing this year as the Board of Investments (BOI) expects the share of manufacturing projects in the agency’s total approved investments to double.

The BOI is projecting the share of registered manufacturing projects to jump to at least 22 percent this year from last year’s 11.09 percent, signaling the government’s target of bringing back to life the country’s manufacturing industry.

According to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Hong Kong was the fifth major trading partner of the Philippines and its third-biggest export market and 12th importer in 2015.

Bilateral trade between both countries stood at $8 billion.

“We have strong business connections in various industries, including tourism.  Our connections are strong both in business and in pleasure,” the DTI said.
