Singapore is the world’s most expensive while Alamaty in Kazakhstan is the last expensive out of 133 countries in the publication’s 2017 World Cost of Living survey. Manila was tied with Athens and Bandar Seri Begawan and trailed Lima, Bahrain, Toronto, Santiago, Rio de Janeiro and Portugal, according to the ranking. The study bases its calculation on the price of at least 160 products and services including food, drink, clothing, household supplies and personal care items among others, converted to US dollars. One kilo loaf of bread costs $3.55 in Singapore and a bottle of table wine $23.68. In Paris, they were $6.81 and $10.35, respectively. In Almaty, it was 90 cents for the bread and $5.15 for the wine. The 10 most expensive countries in the world, according to The Economist are: 1.Singapore 2. Zurich 3. Hong Kong 4. Tokyo 5. Osaka 6. Seoul 7. Geneva (tied with Paris) 7. Paris (tied with Geneva) 9. New York (tied with Copenhagen) 9. Copenhagen (tied with New York) The bottom of the list revealed the 10 least expensive cities. Kiev, Bucharest and New Delhi are tied at 124th place, Algiers Chennai and Mumbai are tied at 127th, followed by Karachi, Bangalore, Lagos and Almaty. – with reports from Reuters
