MANILA – The Philippine Stock Exchange wants more small and medium companies to go public this year, the bourse’s incoming president said Monday.

“To get the public interested, we have to have more products and one of the focus we have this coming year is to increase the participation of the SMEs or what we call now the MSMEs—hopefully get more of these companies get listed in the Exchange,” PSE President and CEO Ramon Monzon said in an interview with ANC’s Market Edge.

Monzon, who was elected to the post on Saturday, said the exchange was also targeting companies who have reported US dollar finances to consider dollar-denominated securities for fundraising.

“Hopefully, this will get more interest not only from the listed companies, but also from the investors,” he said, as he noted that there was one “successful” DDS listing earlier this year.

Monzon, owner of the Miss Earth beauty pageant, said he would prioritize the Exchange’s acquisition of the Philippine Dealing System in his first three months in office.

An accountant by profession, Monzon believes the “numbers are looking good now” and said the passage of the administration’s tax reform package “will have a very positive impact on the stock trading activities.”
